I think preferred just means "Back in"... that way when you accelerate out of the spot your exhaust can cover the sign in black soot ;)
Until my monthly payment for a "New and Efficient" car will be less that the cost to fill up my tank, they can keep 'em.
I traded in my 14 miles per gallon Trailblazer for a 36 miles per gallon Toyota Corolla. The free market at work.
As for the sign, hey, both of my cars are / were hydro-carbon powered eco-vehicles! I'd have still parked there. Too many people actually listen to sign that have no real authority and no consequences for violation.
Just lately, I've been thinking I'm either totally blissed-out or the addle-pated granny I thought I was merely projecting for fun. No disrespect, as the disrespectful always say, but I don't know why you were annoyed.
