Geek
I just ordered a limited edition Spike action figure. It's my first. Help me, someone! I don't wanna be an action figure geek! I need an intervention! What the hell is next? Comic books? Moving back to my mother's basement? Going to conventions? Mommy, what's happening to me? Oh, woe is me! Must... get... help.
Still, it's awfully nice to imagine the little guy sitting on my computer, helping me write, threatening to bite me, speaking all mockney. NO! See, I know I didn't just say that. I do need help!

Don't be so quick to dismiss comic books. I read them as a young 'un (mainly Archie and Spiderman) and just recently got back into them when I saw a series by Joss Whedon called Fray. Are you telling me you've never read that one?? It's quite good. There's two other series, Tales of the Slayers and Tales of the Vampires, written by several Buffy show writers. Some comic books actually have merit, at least in this reader's opinion, and reading is one of my main time-killers.
Very cool pose on that Spike statue. Don't think of it as an action figure. Think of it as posable eye candy. -kd
KD, you're right about the action figure. I will try not to trouble myself any longer over the geekiness of that purchase. However, I don't see myself doing the comic book thing any time soon. First off, I wouldn't even know where to buy a collectible-type comic book, and I think that's for the best. Second, I know what I was like when I was collecting rare music memorabilia. I was hitting all the shows where creepy, smelly guys set up and try to sell you bootlegs in a hotel ballroom. I went to all of them. I soon realized that I had better stop with the obsessing, lest I become the one behind the table selling "Queen:Live in Japan, Recorded by some Guy in the Audience with a Little Tape Recorder." No, not for me, that. Comicon, here I come. ha ha
Fair enough. Just have to mention that comic books are easily ordered on Amazon. No muss, no fuss, and defintely no scary comicons needed. I shall say no more on the subject.
That music memorabilia thing is frightening. No wonder you're gun shy on anything associated with obsessive collectors.
