Sitcom

Fashionably late again for MCF's Blog Party. It's Saturday morning. Maybe some folks couldn't drive home last night and had to stay over.

My top three sitcom minor characters are...

Michael Warburton as Puddy on Seinfeld. He's just freakin' hilarious.

Stephen Root at Jimmy on News Radio. I love this guy! He's SO arrogant and pompous, but he does it all with a big smile and a good ol' boy chuckle.

Megan Mulally as Karen on Will & Grace. She probably can't even be counted as a minor character, but she makes me laugh till it hurts.

Runner-up: Seinfeld's J. Peterman.

Nice List!! I forgot about News Radio, makes you think how long that show would have run if Hart had stayed alive.

I love Warbuton more as Krank, in Emporer's New Groove - ohmygosh - talk about laughing on the floor.

Holy cow, how could I forget about Putty?! Great pick.

Also forgot about News Radio. I loved that show, even thought Andy Dick was funny. And how often can a person say that?

Newsradio was the best radio station sitcom since WKRP, and I think Grant hit the nail on the head. Lovitz was never quite right for the show and they might have done better to not replace the Phil Hartman character and work with the remaining ensemble, all of whom were pretty strong. It was a great quirky show, and it is funny that Andy Dick was less obnoxious as Matthew than he is as Andy Dick.

Puddy. Krank. Superman. The Tick. With his stone delivery, Warburton can do no wrong in my book.

Ack! I so wanted to do the Party, but Friday night was kid pick up.

Putty and J. Peterman are some of the all time great minor characters in sitcom history. If we're going minor, the Megan Mulally as Karen Walker is out, since she's way too important to the show.

Let's not forget Jerry Stiller as Mr. Costanza. In fact, Seinfeld has to have the all time best minor characters in sitcom history. Some of my favorites: Newman, Apu, The Soup Nazi (of course), Poppy, and Kramer's lawyer Jackie Chiles. Hilarious, all of them.
