Party!

Just so I wouldn't be late, AGAIN, I thought I'd be one of the annoying people to arrive too early to Mysterious Cloaked Figure's Blog Party III. This time, he asks us to bring our five favorite heroes of all time to the party. As always, I will be answering in the most visceral way, giving no thought to real merit, only to my own feelings at this very moment.

1. Edmond Dantes - The Count of Monte Cristo. Because I just love that whole plotty revengey thing. He's a hero to me. Scary, huh?

2. Aragorn - Need I say more? There's really nothing like a reluctant king when you need saving!

3. Spike - Of course! Because at the very end, he's THE big redeemed hero. I'm so psyched that he's in both villain and hero categories!

4. Mr. Darcy - From Pride and Prejudice. Sure, he starts out surly and anti-social, but what a hero! My very favorite kind of hero, in fact.

5. Jack Stiles - A true hero and the king of the one-liners! A hero needs a big chin, and he's got one, along with a horse named Nutcracker. Verily, I love you, Jack Stiles.

And hey! How many EXCLAMATION POINTS can I fit into one post? What fun! Heroes! Exclamation points! Hooray!

I couldn't for the life of me think of any good literary heroes. Total brain block. Great job, and great heroes.

I almost went with Spike, but I just didn't enjoy his hero years very much on Buffy. Hero Spike was great on Angel, though.

Jack Stiles, ha ha! Oh no. Now I've got the theme song going through my head. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Not going to the party; but I have to nominate Harry Potter; Sunwing, a heroic bat in the series by Kenneth Oppel, Jo from Little Women, Dr Zhivago, for the steadfastness of his love for Lara but not for his poor wife, so I'm on the nomination fence, and Slimon Morley, Jack Finney's timne-travelling hero in Time and Again.
And I have to admit, I don't know who Jack Stiles is. (red-faced smiley with a tear)

NO, not Slimon, SIMON MORLEY, fearless timetraveller to 1880s New York

You've all inspired me to read more novels.

Had to Google Jack Styles, but it was who I suspected it was. Big Campbell fan, but I've never watched that show. Recently caught Caviezel on DVD as the film version of Dantes and thought it was awesome; most of the dissenting reviews I read online were from people who didn't like that it wasn't faithful to the book, so maybe I should read that one of these days.

Great choices; thanks for coming to another party! And Lorna may be crashing the Afterparty; that's a good list as well.

Nice literary picks, Lorna. I considered Harry Potter, but he just didn't make the cut with my other defenders of justice.

For the record, Jack Stiles is actually Bruce Campbell, in a short-lived TV show called Jack of All Trades. There's no describing it really. Just silly fun.

MCF, I adore Caviezel as The Count. I think he does an inredible job. I think that he and Guy Pearce are amazing. But as for the rest of the movie, nary a redeeming quality. That didn't stop me from buying it on DVD, though.

Hah, when you mentioned Jack Stiles I immediately thought of Ash. I like his anti-hero-ness. I always liked Spike, but not as a hero. To me, he lost some of his interesting character when he got all heroic. I like Sam from the LoTR trilogy best of all, I think. People expect a king to be heroic, but Sam really saved the day many many times. Gosh it's been a while since I've read any real fiction. I like Spiderman. :)
